Beating Boba- EE

The fourth entry to my “Edmonds Entries.”

Holding my boba outside the shop in Edmonds, Washington

Each night I’ve walked by the shop in the shadows, so I could creep up to the window and decide not to reach for the door. So I could turn my body fast and run to shed my shame. Still I’d stand upon the sidewalk, staring lustfully at her. Wishing my will to push me closer, and plunge me swift inside. Her twinkly lights inviting, warning me in yellow. The open sign sneaky, my mind has read it closed. In sits two young women, laughing over a table. Testing out their chairs as they rock and ramble on. I watch them sip unwittingly, envious of their insouciance.

But soon my feet flew from me and whisked me to the window. My hand shot from my coat and moved the door to open. I stood in front a wall of decision noodle soup. It seemed they turned to hieroglyphs as I tried to know them more.

“Hello, can I help you?” The smiling woman wondered.

I turned back to the writings and let my shoulders down, “I’m unsure what I’d like, so make me what you love. I promise not to hate it, I’m not the picky sort.”

I stood there with a smile that grew from deep inside me. A sunshine filled my toes and warmed my cold cheeks rosy. I turned to grab the cup and gave them gratitude. And off I went, into the night to skip and sip the lights now green.

Boy oh boy, do I love boba.
